A unique gorget for President Władysław Raczkiewicz from General Michał Tokarzewski-Karaszewicz (Commander of the 6th Lviv Infantry Division) and his soldiers, made when the division was stationed in Tockoje (USSR) in December 1941 before its evacuation to the Middle East.
A gorget in the form of a shield, on the obverse there is an engraving of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn from Wilno (Ostrabrama), around the edge there is an engraved decorative pattern with a lily at the bottom.
On the reverse there is an engraved soldier in a helmet and a long coat holding a rifle with a bayonet, in the background the rising sun, a cross and an eagle with spread wings in a crown. A small signature “Wyk Molenda” (Made by Molenda) is visible under the soldier’s feet. The inscription around:
PREZYDENTOWI RZECZYPOSPOLITEJ POLSKIEJ DOWÓDCA I ŻOŁNIERZE 6 D.P 1 XII 1941
“TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND, COMMANDER AND SOLDIERS OF THE 6th INFANTRY DIVISION, 1st DECEMBER 1941.”
A unique item of beautiful quality from one of the more difficult periods of the Polish Army in the West, which was formed in difficult conditions in Soviet Russia after being released from the labor camps and gulags.
This object has been tested via a spectrometer. The metal content is 81.25 silver, 17.55% copper.
