October 3, 2019WW2 Rare Polish Regimental Badge – 2nd Grochowski Lancers – Picchiani & Barlacchi
Solid Silver (0800), Picchiani & Barlacchi Italy , 38,5mm x 31mm
A rare Polish Regimental Breast Badge of the 2nd Grochowski Lancers Regiment made in Italy (Florence) by Picchiani & Barlacchi circa 1945-47.
Repeated image of the pre-WW2 2nd Grochowski Lancers breast badge in the form of a crowned eagle with downward spread wings holding a blue and white animal pennon with the monogram JD (Józef Dwernicki). Slightly convex, the reverse is smooth with a visible rivet and a threaded post as well a silver hallmark “800”.
Original spinner with the maker inscribed “S.A Picchiani & Barlacchi, Firenze”. Very good condition as in the photographs.
The 2nd Grochowski Lancers regiment was not reformed in the Polish Armed Forces in the West, this badge was made for pre-WW2 Polish Officers of the regiment who served in the Polish Armed Forces in the West and have lost their badge during the war. An extremely small number of these badges was made, making this badge and exceptionally rare piece.
