A rare Polish identity card issued on July 15, 1942 in Jangi-Jul (Russia) at an early stage of the formation of the Polish Army in the USSR, later 2nd Polish Corps. The document was issued to Sergeant Stanisław Lupa, a soldier of the 1st Military Policy Company.
Bilingual ID card in Polish, Russian and English. The identity card has two handwritten signatures of General Zygmunt Bohusz-Szyszko.
General Zygmunt Bohusz-Szyszko (1893–1982) was an outstanding officer of the Polish Army, whose military career included both the fight for Poland’s independence in 1918–1921 and key roles during World War II. As commander of the Independent Podhale Rifle Brigade, he became famous for his victory at Narvik in Norway in 1940, achieving the only Allied land success in that campaign. In 1941–1942, he served as head of the Polish Military Mission to the Red Army and commander of the Polish Army in the USSR, and after being evacuated to Iran, he became a close associate of General Władysław Anders. After the war, he worked in exile in London as a military authority and promoter of Polish military history, remaining one of the most outstanding Polish commanders of the 20th century.
Stanisław Lupa, born on April 28, 1900 in Męcina, Kraków Voivodeship. Before the war, he was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit, the Medal for the 1918–21 War, the Medal for the 10th Anniversary of Regaining Independence, the Silver Medal for Long Service, the Bronze Medal for Long Service. Later a soldier of the 11th Military Police Squadron, participant of the Battle of Monte Cassino, awarded the cross 47557.
