A rare example of the Polish 1939 pattern Cap Eagle badge, manufactured in Palestine from 1940, in the variant featuring 13 studs on the Amazon shield instead of the standard 11. This variant was worn by soldiers of the Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade and units of the Polish Army in the Middle East. Condition very good, as shown in the accompanying photographs.
The badge depicts an eagle with outstretched wings, resting on an amazon shield, with the head topped by a closed crown. The reverse features a threaded post with its original screwback. The badge was struck from a die.
A comparable variant is described and illustrated in the book: Tomasz Zawistowski, “Orły do czapek w 2. Korpusie Polskim”, p. 112, fig. 144.
