This Polish Eagle Cap badge was produced in Bari, Italy, in early 1946 for the 2nd Polish Corps under General Władysław Anders. It is one of the rarer Polish eagles worn by soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps.
The eagle is particularly due to its characteristics – it was silver-plated with a low-quality finish and made from very thin metal, which makes it prone to damage, breakage and wear. As a result, an example in this condition is extremely difficult to find. This makes it a prized item for serious collectors.
The badge features a stylized eagle with outstretched wings, perched on an Amazonian shield. The eagle is crowned with a closed crown. It was struck from a die, and on the reverse side, there is a threaded post with the original hexagonal nut. Made of brass and silver-plated.
This version of the eagle is discussed in Tomasz Zawistowski’s book “Eagles on Caps in the 2nd Polish Corps” on page 49, illustration 29.
