Albin Socha was born on 12 March 1918 in Zborówek, Busko County, Poland. During World War II, he served in the Polish Air Forces in Great Britain as a senior sergeant radio operator, service number 780353. After the war, he remained in the UK, where he passed away on 2 March 2005 in Lincolnshire.

Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM) – The Distinguished Flying Medal was established by Great Britain on 3 June 1918 during World War I as an award granted to non-commissioned officers and airmen of the Royal Air Force and other British Empire air forces for exceptional courage and achievement during aerial operations. Initially awarded mainly for heroic acts during combat missions, during World War II the DFM was widely awarded to airmen for their contributions to air battles, including Poles serving in the RAF – a total of only 66 Polish airmen received this decoration. The medal is engraved on the rim with the recipient’s details.
