The Polish Virtuti Militari Cross of 5th Class, the highest Polish award for military acts of bravery. Made in the Middle East, production attributed to Haim Rubin of Tel-Aviv, Palestine (Modern day Israel).
Cast from silver, lacquered eagle, wreath and wreath. Original period ribbon. Worn condition as on photographs.
Cross belonged to an officer of the 11th Signals Battalion, 2nd Polish Corps of General Anders. Participants of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Award in the shape of the cross, in the centre a crowned white eagle with wings spread. On the arms an inscription in black “Virtuti Militari”. The reverse has clear arms, the centre medallion has a laurel leaves crown, with an inscription in the centre “Honor i Ojczyzna 1792”, meaning Honour and Fatherland 1792.
