Polish Scout’s Cross in the rank of Scouts of the Republic of Poland. Cross made in occupied Germany in 1945-48. Variation number 51 according to the book by Tomasz Sikorski “Krzyż Harcerski 1913-2013”. The degree of rarity is assessed as very rare.
Badge in the shape of a Virtuti Militari cross, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves and laurel, signifying strength, skill, agility and knowledge. In the central medallion Fleur-de-lys, the international scout symbol. The Polish scouts slogan “Czuwaj” on the arms of the cross. Badge designed by priest Kazimierz Lutosławski with the team after changes. The scouts cross is the only civilian badge allowed to be worn on military uniforms in Poland.
The obverse of the cross is covered with silver and gold paint to emphasize the degree of the cross; Scout of the Republic of Poland.
The cross is made of soft alloy. Die stamped. Plain reverse with embossed abbreviations: On the upper arm Z.H.P (Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego – Polish Scouting Association). Left arm letter “N” (Niemcy-Germany). Lower arm “W1623”, possibly marking the issuer of the cross: Rhenish Banner of Scouts “Warta” based in the city of Werl near Soest in the British occupation zone, followed by the serial number of the cross.
