Polish Regimental Badge of the 9th Flemish Rifle Battalion of the 1st Armored Division under General Maczek. A rarer badge from the first series of issue.
The badge is a one-piece design in the shape of a stylized eagle with a crown. The left wing of the eagle incorporates the insignia of the 1st Armored Division. At the bottom of the badge, the battalion’s initials (9BSF) are inscribed, separated by a heraldic shield featuring the Belgian coat of arms.
The reverse of the badge is smooth, with a central mounting post and a smooth nut. The badge is numbered at the bottom, no. 504, issued to private Franciszek Smoliński. Condition as shown in the photos.
The 9th Flemish Rifle Battalion was part of the 1st Armored Division under General Maczek. The regiment fought in France, and later in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
This variant was produced in occupied Germany. Variant 23 is described in the book “The Polish Army in the West 1939-47 Commemorative and Specialist Badges: A Collector’s Companion 2020” by Tony Leszczuk & Krzysztof Barbarski.
