Portrait of General Michał Tokarzewski-Karaszewicz. General condition is good with signs of use.

Portrait painted in oil on white glass. The general is in the rank of Brigadier General, which suggests that the painting was most likely painted around 1941-43 modeled on a pre-war portrait. The painting shows the General’s very thin face, it looks different than on pre-war sources, which would confirm the theory about the time the portrait was made. After leaving the NKVD prison in Lubyanka in 1941, the general grew older.

It should also be noted that there are significant errors in uniforms (for example, hanging decorations on left pocket), if the portrait were painted before the war there would be no possibility for such mistakes. Considering these errors, the portrait presents high artistic values. The face and hand are realistically painted by a skilled artist. The image is in the original passe-partout but modern frame.

General Michał Tokarzewski-Karaszewicz, one of the first organizers of the Polish underground. He was arrested in 1940 by the NKVD. From 1941, he became the commander of the 6th Infantry Division “Lwów”. He never returned to Poland. He died in Morocco in 1965.
