Description
A patriotic gorget made in Italy for the needs of General Anders’ 2nd Polish Corps. A rarely seen gilded version, as most known examples were silvered.
On the obverse, there is an image of Our Lady of Częstochowa surrounded by patriotic decorations in the form of Polish banners and eagles. On the reverse, there are five important Christian pilgrimage sites in Europe (S. Maria Maggiore, Rome, Lourdes, Loreto, Jasna Góra Częstochowa, Fatima).
The gorgetis described in Marian Brzezicki’s book “Medals and Badges,” London 1979, entry 387.
