A set of three volumes of the legendary book by Melchior Wańkowicz “The Battle of Monte Cassino”, in the first edition printed in Italy in the years 1945-47. The first volume has a personal dedication from the author of the book Melchior Wańkowicz to General Kazimierz Wiśniowski with the following content:
“Panu Generałowi Kazimierzowi Wiśniowskiemu, Książkę złożonej z “tysięcy niedyskretnych pytań na drodze saperów” i gdzie indziej, z tysięcy plątań się po nitkach bitwy, rękami jej deseń tkały. 6 Luty 1946 Ancona, M.Wańkowicz”

General Kazimierz Wiśniowski (born 1896 Dobromil, died 1964 London). From August to November 1943, head of the 3rd Operational Department of the 2nd Polish Corps. From November 1943 to December 1946, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Polish Corps. In this position, he fought in the Italian campaign, including the battles of Monte Cassino, Ancona and Bologna. He directed the expansion of the corps in Italy and its demobilization in England. In the meantime (October 21, 1944 – January 10, 1945) he commanded the 1st Carpathian Rifle Brigade. He was promoted to brigadier general with seniority on May 3, 1945 in the generals’ corps. Author of “Notes on the Book of Melchior Wańkowicz, Battle of Monte Cassino” Volume III, “Battle of Piedimonte”. He married an intelligence agent, Halina Szymańska. He died on November 4, 1964 in London.
The publication was written by an outstanding author of 20th century Polish literature, Melchior Wańkowicz, an eyewitness to the history and situations described in the books, who served as a correspondent during the fighting in Italy with the 2nd Polish Corps. The triptych contains nearly 2,000 photographs commemorating the fights of 2KP.
Condition as shown in the photos, with numerous dirt, abrasions and some spines detached.
Hardcover made of cloth, on the obverse of the cover, in the central part, the outlines of the Monte Cassino cross and military eagles are visible.
