A beautiful uniform of the Polish Armed Forces in the West, battledress type, worn by a captain of engineers from the 6th Sapper (Engineers) Battalion, 6th Lwów Infantry Brigade. The battledress features typical “Polish” alterations including a sewn collar, shoulder straps (modeled after pre-war Poland), and shoulder patches. An untouched piece.
The Battle Dress P36 jacket, made in Australia by the “Chief Clothing Co” (Size 8), is made from wool, single-breasted with four buttons and a buckle at the bottom, fastened from left to right. The collar has a distinctive pointed stitching with celluloid patches in the colors of the sappers (black-red) adorned with metal badges of the 6th Lwów Infantry Brigade. On both shoulders below the shoulder seam are red title parches with “POLAND” inscribed. On the left arm, there is a distinctive patch of the 5th Kresy Infantry Division and below it, the patch of the 6th Lwów Infantry Brigade. On the right arm below the “POLAND” title, is a British 8th Army patch embroidered in bullion thread. The shoulder boards denote the rank of captain.
Above the left pocket, there are ribbons for the following decorations: Army Medal, Monte Cassino Cross, 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, British Defence Medal, and British War Medal.
Above the ribbons is the badge of the 2nd Polish Corps of General Anders. On the pocket of the battledress, there are the badges of the 5th Kresy Infantry Division and the 6th Lwów Infantry Brigade.
