A rare Polish medal, made at the end of the internment of the 2nd Rifle Division in Switzerland. After the end of World War II, soldiers of the 2nd DSP, interned in Switzerland, did not manage to escape to the Polish Armed Forces in the West, they minted this medal to commemorate regaining full freedom.

The obverse shows a commemorative badge of the 2nd Rifle Division, around it the inscription in three languages meaning Internment in Switzerland “Internowanie w Szwajcarii – Internierung in der Schweiz, L’Internement en Suisse”.

The reverse shows two soldiers, one in a battle dress uniform with a book in hand (symbol of studying) and the other in work clothes with a shovel in hand (symbol of work).

Medal designed by Zbigniew Bem, made by Huguenin Medailleurs SA in Le Locle in 1945. Medal in very good condition, together with the original box.
