Patriotic jewelry in the form of a horizontal silver brooch, featuring a round shield in the center with a decorated edge and a crowned eagle set in the middle with red enamel. The reverse of the shield is engraved with the date 1st August 1914 and has a horizontal pin.

The pin and brooch are hallmarked with the Polish silver mark of 875, used on items below 10 grams between 1920-1931 in Warsaw. Maker’s mark: JL. The hallmark was likely added later, as the item itself was probably made around 1914. Total weight is approximately 5 grams. Condition is very good as shown in the photos.

The brooch likely commemorates Germany’s declaration of war on Russia on August 1, 1914, which was seen as a great opportunity for Poland to regain independence, which was achieved in 1918.
