WW1 Polish Patriotic New Year Silk Postcard
Circa 1917-1919, France/Poland (?)
A World War One period Polish patriotic postcard. The front is embroidered silk with a Polish white eagle on a red shield. Inside inscribed “Z Powinszowaniem Nowego Roku” – Happy New Year.
Inside an inscription:
“Po kolejach rozmaitych i po przejściach wielu, Znowu rozwinął orzeł biały Skrzydła na Wawelu, Ciemności niewoli, Nasz Orzeł rozprasza, Wiwat! Orzeł Biały i Ojczyzna nasza”.
“After various roads and many difficulties, the white eagle has spread his wings again on the Wawel Castle. The darkness of captivity, our eagle scatters, cheers! The White Eagle and our Homeland ”.
Postcard made most likely towards the end of World War One or during the Polish-Bolshevik War. Good condition as on photographs, original envelope.
