An exceptional set of two previously unpublished photographs taken during the Warsaw Uprising. The set includes two photographs:
- An unpublished photograph depicting Warsaw insurgents at a post in the early days of the Uprising in the area of Krucza and Bracka streets, described on the reverse as “First days of the uprising, On the barricade before the ‘Tiger’ attack.” „Pierwsze dni powstania, Na barykadzie przed atakiem „tygrysa” „
- An unpublished photograph showing an insurgent in the ruins of the ‘Cristal’ restaurant building (the now non-existent August Stol tenement, Aleje Jerozolimskie 10 corner of Bracka 16). This location is also captured in the Warsaw Uprising chronicle, in a segment showing an agreement to cease fire to allow the collection of the wounded and dead from both sides. The photograph was most likely taken in the second half of September 1944. It is described on the reverse as “On post at ‘Cristal’.” „Na posterunku w „Cristalu” „
The Warsaw Uprising was excellently documented through the hard work of photographers and filmmakers, who often risked their lives to capture the spirit of the Uprising in Warsaw. Despite numerous studies and the availability of archival materials in literature, previously unpublished photographic shots taken during the Warsaw Uprising, documenting events in the capital from late August to September 1944, can still be found.
Unpublished photographs hold great historical value and are rare on the collectors’ market, highly sought after by many collectors.
