Original Polish regimental breast badge of the legendary Death Hussars Squadron.
The Volunteer Cavalry Squadron, also known as the Death Hussars Squadron, was a cavalry unit of the Polish Army of the Second Polish Republic and the Army of Central Lithuania. This unit became famous for its remarkable history – it never suffered a defeat from its inception. The formation of the Squadron began on July 23, 1920, in Białystok, during the Polish-Soviet War. The official name of this unit was the Volunteer Cavalry Squadron. It included soldiers from Major Jaworski’s Cavalry, the Tatar Cavalry Regiment, and other volunteers.
The badge is in the form of an equal-armed cross with black enameled arms, outlined in white, and two swords between the arms of the cross, pointing upwards. The lower arm of the cross bears the date (23 – VII – 20).
At the center of the badge is the distinctive Death Hussars insignia in the form of a skull resting on crossbones. Traces of gilding are visible. The reverse is smooth and gilded, with two mounting pins near the post. The nut spinner is smooth and unsigned.
This badge very rarely appears on the collectors’ market at auctions, making it an extraordinary opportunity to complete a collection of early Polish Army badges.
