An exceptionally charming postcard-format portrait photo from around 1920 depicting Jan Kurowski, a volunteer lancer, in a wz.19 uniform with an English-style cavalry cap and a wz.17 saber. On his pocket, a white-red volunteer cockade with an eagle is visible, alongside an unrecognized badge. The photo was gifted by a lancer to a nurse who cared for him in 1920 at the Garrison Hospital in Lwów. The dedication reads:
“Garrison Hospital 29-X-20 In memory of my beloved for ‘kindness and a golden heart’ Miss E. Tassowiczówna. As proof that with your kindness and golden heart you saved and sweetened the life of a sick uhlan in the ‘Garrison’ hospital. God brought you here to lend a hand to a good cause. Thank you warmly and please count on the gratitude of the Borderlander. Uhlan Jan Kurowski.”
Na pamiątkę ukochanej za “dobroć i złote serce” P. E Tassowiczównie W dowód że swą dobrocią i złotym sercem ocaliła i osłodziła życie chorego ułana w szpitalu “Załogi”. Bóg Panią tu sprowadził abyś Pani przyłożyła rękę do dobrego dzieła. Dziękuję serdecznie i proszę liczyć na wdzięczność u Kresowca. Ułan Jan Kurowski.”
