Pre-WW2 Polish Gold Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari (4th class), made by Stanisław Reising’s workshop in Warsaw around 1922/23 for government issues .
Virtuti Militari cross from the Order Chapter’s Inventory reserve (unissued), numbered but not awarded. The cross is numbered on the reverse 696, along with an original paper bag of the engraver Stanisław Reising and a corresponding number of the cross on the bag (696). Original issue ribbon with safety pin. Beautiful condition with traces of use as shown in the photos.
Award in the shape of a gilded cross, in the center a crowned white enameled eagle with wings spread. On gilded arms is an inscription in black enameled letter “Virtuti Militari”. The reverse has clear arms, the center medallion has a laurel leaves crown, with an inscription in the center “Honor i Ojczyzna 1792”, meaning Honor and Fatherland 1792.
