To commemorate 150th Anniversary of the death of Tadeusz Kościuszko and 100th Anniversary of the birth of Józef Piłsudski, the Government of the Republic of Poland-in-Exile has ordered a pattern of a commemorative coin of 10 zlotych to be struck. Despite naming it “coin”, it is a medal because it lacks the essential feature of the coin – the denomination of the face value and the inscription on the reverse is not appropriate for the coin.

The International Numismatic Agency, New York, USA, was commissioned by the Polish National Treasury Committee in New York to produce the medal. The medal was minted at the Franklin Mint with the participation of Gilroy Roberts, designer of the President’s John.F Kennedy profile, on a half-dollar coin.

The obverse shows, on a mirror background, superimposed matte profiles on the left and an inscription on the left, “Tadeusz Kościuszko 1746-1817”, on the right, “Józef Piłsudski 1867-1935”. At the bottom, the inscription “Naczelnikom w Hołdzie” – “To Leader in Homage..

On the reverse, against a mirror background, a matte Polish eagle with a crown, around the inscription “President of the Republic and the Government”. The date 1967 below the eagle, below the word “Essai” or “Trial”. This medal is minted in the style of American coins..

Medal described in the book “Medals and Badges” by Marian Brzezicki, London 1979, position 68.

Medal in condition as shown in the photos, the box has signs of wear and the inside is loose.
