A rare Polish medal minted by the efforts of the 25th Anniversary Celebration Committee of the victorious Battle of Monte Cassino. Made in London by John Pinches in 1969.

 The obverse shows the view of Monte Cassino with the ruins of the Monastery of St. Benedict at the top, on which the Polish and English flags were planted. Below, the dates 1944-1969, below it, two crossed bayonets and an eagle of the Polish Army – separate the inscription: “25th Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino”

 On the reverse, against the background of a ribbon – at the top “Mermaid” the symbol of the 2nd Polish Corps, and below it “Christmas Tree” of the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division, “Żubr” of the 5th Kresowa Infantry Division, “Armored Arm” of the 2nd Warsaw Armored Division, all units were included in the 2nd Polish Corps and below the Monte Cassino Cross. Inscribed  “2 Korpus Polski” – 2nd Polish Corps, separated by a laurel wreath from the date: 18. 5. 1944.

The first owner’s name is engraved on the edge: “Maria Spaltenstein”, wife of Colonel Henryk Spaltenstein.
