Polish Patriotic Solid Silver Gorgets
Warsaw, 1931-1957. Solid Silver

A pair of Polish Patriotic Gorgets, both made in silver of 800 standard.
The larger (64.5mm x 57mm)- a shield shaped gorget with a crowned Polish eagle with spread wings. On its breast an applied Virgin Mary of Częstochowa.
Smooth reverse, engraved with an inscription “Pawłowi oddając go w Opiekę Matce Bożej, Warszawa 29.IV.1949”, “To Paweł, entrusting him to the Protection of the Mother of God, Warsaw, 29 April 1949”.
Hallmarked with Polish assay marks for Warsaw 1931-63, goldsmith “SN”. The applied medallion with Virgin Mary is also hallmarked.
The smaller (39mm x 31mm) – shield shaped gorget with floral decoration and an applied Virgin Mary of Częstochowa. Smooth reverse engraved “Kochanej Jadzi i Pawłowi z Ojczyzny – Wanda 8.I.57”. “To Beloved Jadzia and Paweł from Fatherland – Wanda 8.I.57”.
Hallmarked with Polish assay marks for Warsaw 1931-63, goldsmith “JP” – Józef Panasiuk.
