Luxury Polish Patriotic Eagle Pendant/Brooch. Custom, hand made piece made circa 1880-1920 from palladium, gold and 96 old cut diamonds. One of its kind unique artifacts made for an unknown important patron.
This type of eagle has been popular in Poland since the period after the January Uprising of 1863/64 and was commonly worn until around 1918, when Poland regained independence. The eagle refers to the historical eagle from the Renaissance period from the Sigismund Chapel on Wawel Castle in Krakówl, designed by Bartłomiej Berrecci. The widespread use of these eagles begins around 1870/80. Most pieces were cast or minted in silver. This unique piece is an individual order made of palladium and diamonds.
These eagles were mainly made in Austrian occupied Poland including Kraków and Lwów. This level of craftsmanship of this example and materials suggest this was made by an important workshop possibly in Vienna. After extensive research we can state that this is the most luxurious piece of Polish Patriotic Jewelry from the 19th/20th century known at the moment among the Polish museum and private collection .
Made from high grade palladium (0.980). With a later added pin made from 14 carat gold (0.585). The piece is hand chiseled and engraved with fitted 96 rose cut diamonds with the total mass of circa 0.60 carat. The piece is accompanied with a modern jewelers certificate.
Absolutely unique masterpiece worthy of the most demanding collection.
